Nick Saya is an eclectic music man. He’s a drummer, a songwriter/sound designer (he contributes original music and sound design to films, television, multimedia), a producer (his projects run the stylistic gamut from hip hop and dance music to rock and r&b), and a programmer (for DJ Jonathan Peters). As a leading drummer, he has worked for a host of world-class performers in various genres. These include fellow Allstars Lew Soloff and Tom Malone, keyboards player John Medeski, saxophonist Lenny Pickett (Saturday Night Live’s musical director, a Tower of Power alumnus), popular singer Gloria Gaynor, the late rock guitarist Gordon Gaines, jazz-funk’s David Fiuczynski’s Screaming Torsos, jazz-based adventurers Medeski, Martin & Wood, perennial favorites Blood, Sweat & Tears, and vocalist Chris Barron of the alternative-rock band the Spin Doctors. Saya has been a member of singer Annie Minogue’s rock band since its inception; the Los Angeles Music Awards once chose this band as its “National Artist of the Year.”
