Here’s a fun and funky outing with a band that is horns a-plenty. A brass team of Tony Kadleck/tp, Lew Soloff/tp, Tom Malone/tb and saxes of Andy Snitzer, “Blue Lou” Marini and “Bones” Malone again front a rhythm team of Mike Merola/g, Al MacDowell/b, Rob Clores/keys, Nick Saya/dr and Daniel Sadownick/perc through a mix of snappy originals and covers. You get a fun and bright take of “Birdland” and a Tower of Power punch on “Meaning of Life.” Some fine vocals range from poppish on “Will Have to Do” by Horace Scott to funky New Orleans back beat on “I’m A Real Nice Guy” with Bill Kurz, with Angel Rissof singing along Merola’s guitar on a sizzling salsa on “Sugar Bowl.” Lots of upbeat moments here; these guys gotta be great for parties!
